Drum One features seven drum engines with three sound generators, 64 factory/user kits, 4×26 source waveforms per drum engine, and WAV file import support. It includes a collection of 64 raw and synthetic drum kits.
This sample-based drum synthesizer comes with individual controls for the kit elements such as kick, percussion, snare, tom, hi-hat, open hat, and crash.
The controllable parameters include knobs for filter cutoff, resonance, and lowcut levels. One can also shape their transients using the attack and sustain knobs. You can make these adjustments to the individual sounds.
Apart from the master volume and gain, you can add reverb, saturation, and compression to the master channel. You can also use the ‘filter’ knob at the bottom of the interface to adjust the sound frequency. This can be especially handy if you use Maschine for live performances.
While you can generate your own drum patterns, there is also a randomizer to help your grooves sound fresh and not repetitive. This can also make electronic grooves feel more human by adding an element of randomness to the pattern.
The patterns can be transposed up or down, depending on what key your music is in. You can further tweak your sound by adding color to it in the form of drive or ‘lo-fi.’
Although there are 64 kits available, using the layer effects on the different elements of the kits makes them sound different and unique every time.
You can also import your own samples and run them through Drum One’s custom Kontakt interface. This can be helpful if you want to swap out certain sounds in a kit for something that you own already (like our free Samplefino drums).
A drum synthesizer makes for a great addition to one’s library because they are incredibly versatile and can be used for almost any genre of music. The presets on the Drum One range from techno to house and hip-hop. Even pop musicians can make good use of this plugin.
Although this is a free sound library, you need to have the full version of Kontakt (version 6.4.2) by Native Instruments. It is compatible with both Windows and macOS machines. The download size is 125 MB.
You can download the Drum One from the Rigid Audio website by subscribing to their newsletter.
