01. Clattering

A script font created with a brushstroke, Clattering has a loverly dynamic movement and fluidity. Confident, with a carefree but slightly hurried energy, it’s surprisingly versatile for use in different contexts. Against a beach-orientated background it can create a surfer-chic look, but in a black and white composition with a classic image, it can pull off a much more elegant look. It’s free for personal use but you’ll need to pay for a commercial licence.

02. Seaweed Script

Seaweed Script offers a characterful font that wouldn’t look out of place on the likes of a pirate map. With its uneven edges, Seaweed Script looks very earthy and authentic. This font is available to use on both personal and commercial projects, but make sure you read the fine print beforehand. 

03. Barcelony

Looking for free script fonts for invitations or other stationery? We can highly recommend Barcelony. Smooth, elegant and classic, this casual monoline, signature-style font is packed with personality yet still clear and easy to read. Barcelony Signature is free for personal use. 04. Cervanttis

On the hunt for a handwritten, signature-style font? Cervanttis Signature Script is a great collection of free script fonts with a convincingly natural flow and style. 05. Satisfy

Satisfy is an incredibly neat font with a modern twist on a classic script look. The wonderful thing about Satisfy is that the glyphs are joined together, giving the typeface an authentic handwritten feel. Plus, the font is available for both commercial and personal use – what a bonus. 

06. America

Inspired by This is America, Childish Gambino’s hit song of 2018, America boasts large dramatic capitals and a natural flowing stroke. This bold textured script font features a full upper- and lower-case character set, plus several alternate characters. It’s free for both personal and desktop commercial use.

07. Bribera

There’s a lovely 3D feel to this rough bold, hand-lettering script font. Designed by Sarid Ezra, Briberra features stylistic alternates and swashes and is great for quotes, T-shirt designs and other branding projects. It contains multilingual characters, supports PUA. 08. Bimbo

Handwriting script fonts can often look a little fake and contrived, but here’s one that looks more like real writing. An extension and redesign of the Arsenale White typeface, Bimbo was created in 2018 by Francesco Canovaro for Zetafonts. This monoline display font is ideal for minimal lettering and logos, fake handwritten notes, and metatextual jokes.

09. Ochre

If you’re seeking free script fonts with an atmosphere of elegance and romance, then you might like Ochre Script. This hand-drawn calligraphy font from Gizem Kiliç enables you to add a lovely personal feel to wedding stationery, cards, letters, and similar designs. 10. Raindy Monoline

Raindy Monoline is a heavy yet adorable script font. With its looping, joined glyphs and soft curves, it’s perfect for cutesy projects and will add an element of calm to any of your projects. 11. Hoodson Script

With a bouncy baseline and a bonus Swash set, this free script font packs plenty of punch and personality into every curve. 12. Serendipity

Of all the free cursive fonts we’ve spotted of late, Serendipity is one of the most inspired. Created by The HungryJPEG and featuring more than 90 hand-drawn characters, it enables you to add a dash of originality and individuality to your lettering and logo designs. This font is free for both personal and commercial use, although you’ll need to supply your email address to download it.

13. Youth Touch

Bursting with youthful energy, this vibrant script lettering font was created by Herofonts’  Guilhem Greco. Capable of supporting 310 characters, this expressive and versatile font is free to download for personal use only.

14. Vegan Style

Characterised by its short ascenders and descenders, it’s one of those free script fonts that’s ideal for multi-line type designs. 16. Shink

One of the most delicate and restrained free script fonts we’ve seen, Shink is nonetheless highly legible. It also includes plenty of alternates, which you can use to customise your designs. Created by 7NTypes, Shink is free for personal use or $15 for a commercial licence.

17. Hickory Jack 

Brittney Murphy has created several of the best free cursive fonts around, and we simply love this laid back offering. Hickory Jack is free for personal use, but you’ll need to contact Murphy to obtain a commercial licence. 

18. Crunchy

There aren’t many free script fonts that give off a really authentic feel, but Crunchy is one of them. Created by typographer Mans Greback, it has a distinctly old-school feel to it, and would be perfect for any retro or vintage style design. It’s free for personal use only.

19. Alex Brush 

There’s a beautiful flow to this cursive font, which was created by designer Rob Leuschke of TypeSETit. Alex Brush features short ascenders and descenders, and is nice and legible. It’s free for both personal and commercial use. 

20. La Sonnambula

Designed by Fernando Haro, La Sonnambula is a handwritten and extended font that’s been designed with calligraphic texts and elegant titles in mind. It’s named after an opera by Vincenzo Bellini, performed by Maria Callas in Milan in 1957. However despite its classic roots, it’s bang up to date, even including a Bitcoin symbol. 21. Lily of the Valley

Gregory Medina – aka dcoxy – does a great line in free script fonts, and one of our favourites, Lily of the Valley, has been fully updated for 2020. Fun and quirky with some charming flourishes, it features a full set of lower- and upper-case characters, plus accents and symbols. Free for personal use only.

22. Flanella

One of the most original free script fonts we’ve found, Flanella provides a delightfully delicate, looping script that’s full of character and flair. This expressive font is free for both commercial and personal projects.

23. The Woodlands

One of the best free cursive fonts we’ve seen in a long while, The Woodlands offers a strikingly modern and original take on the calligraphic aesthetic. The work of Jeremy Vessey, this cursive font is free for both personal and commercial use, although you’ll need to provide your email address.

24. Noelan

Somewhat at the quirkier end of free script fonts, Noelan includes a number of alternates and international characters, for easy mixing and matching. Created by the team at ndro, this clean and modern design is free for personal use.

Mats-Peter Forss has designed several of the best free script fronts. Beautiful Bloom is a great option for both print and digital projects, including stationery, posters, and logo designs. It’s available at no charge for personal use only.

26. Milkshake

One of the more substantial free script fonts we’ve seen, Milkshake is round, thick and sturdy. Created by typographer Laura Worthington, it’s free to download from Bold Faced Goods, although note that you’ll have to give them both your physical and email address first.

27. Moll Script

This simplistic font will give your project an authentic feel with its rustic feel and uneven edges. This hand-written style script font is adorable, and it’s available for both personal and commercial use, but again, make sure you double-check before any commercial use. 

28. Fabfelt Script

Fabien Despinoy is the creative behind Fabfelt, one of the most industrial-feeling free script fonts on our list. He set out to design a handwritten typeface without graininess, and the result is a natural-looking font with a splash of retro charm.

29. Debby

Released by Artimasa, this lovely hand-drawn brush font will add a natural touch to your designs. With its irregular, bouncing characters, Debby is ideal for wedding invitations, posters, logos and greeting cards. It’s free for both personal and commercial use.

30. Black Jack

Hitting that sweet spot between sophisticated and open, Black Jack was created by Ronna Penner of Typadelic. Although this cursive font is only available in one style, Black Jack comprises 177 characters, including a full set of upper and lower case letters and numbers. 31. Anke Calligraphic FG Regular

One of the quirkiest free script fonts around, Anke Calligraphic FG Regular was originally designed by Anke Arnold, but has been extended to include international characters by Fontgrube Media Design. It’s free for both personal and commercial use.

33. Tahu!

A clean, professional, and modern script font, Tahul includes a full upper- and lower-case set, plus numerals, punctuation and a range of special characters, making it nice and versatile. It’s free for both personal and commercial projects, as long as you credit its creators.

33. 5th Grade Cursive

This wonderfully fancy handwritten font has an old-fashioned look and feel to it, making it perfect for all retro- and vintage-inspired projects. It also makes use of OpenType features to make it appear all the more natural. Designed by Lee Batchelor, it’s free for both personal and commercial use.

34. Christopher Hand

This isn’t the most technically finessed of our free script fonts, but we love the ease of the letterforms and the honesty of the designer’s notes. Crafted by El Stinger, it allows you to present an appearance of effortless scrawl. Christopher Hand is free for personal use only.

35. Grand Hotel

Grand Hotel has a classic weight and subtlety that makes you think of artisan signage and craft, but its cursive lowercase lends itself to a host of different uses. Designed by Brian J Bonislawsky and Jim Lyles for Astigmatic, this most refined of free script fonts is free for both personal and commercial use.
