TAL Software has released an updated version of TAL-Reverb-4, a free reverb VST plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Founded in the early 2000s, TAL Software has been making quality plugins and virtual instruments for years.

They’ve dedicated themselves to making the best possible products and mention on their site that they’re “not a marketing-driven company”; instead, their “main focus is on the product itself.”

This dedication to quality shows in the latest update of their TAL-Reverb-4 plugin.

Reverb plugins are one of the most commonly used effects in music production. Still, each type of reverb has a different character and is helpful in various situations.

Plate reverb, in particular, was one of the original forms of synthetic reverb. It worked by sending a signal through a metal plate attached to an enclosure via springs.

The resulting reverb tone has been used in all genres but perhaps most recognizable in big, distant-sounding drums, popularized in many ’80s pop hits- listen to the intro drums in “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.

TAL-Reverb-4 is designed to emulate old-school plate reverb and give your tracks that bright, retro feel.

The interface is very user-friendly and straightforward to configure. The plugin features five primary modifiers: main, spatial, EQ, Input, and mix.

The “main” and “spatial” controls determine most of the reverb tone. Users can select the size, diffusion, and delay before moving on to the “spatial” control, which can add stereo width.

A majority of the reverb tone comes from these initial controls, but it is possible to modify it further.

TAL-Reverb-4 also has a built-in EQ so that producers can chop off the highs and lows of their reverb to help it fit better in the mix.

Another great feature of this plugin is its built-in sidechain. Select an input, and your reverb will duck and create space for other tracks right away!

Users can also choose from a variety of included reverb presets.

TAL-Reverb-4 works on macOS X 10.9 or higher and Windows 7 or higher. It is compatible with a 64-bit host and DAWs that support VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.

Download and installation are straightforward. Follow the product link to the TAL Software website, select your operating system/desired plugin format, and it’ll immediately begin downloading.
