On(Off)line film, a candid exploration into the heart of Kosovo’s biggest public art project MuralFest Kosova, 2022
Scottish filmmaker Doug Gillen presents On(Off)line, a candid exploration into the heart of Kosovo’s biggest public art project MuralFest Kosova.
Through a series of art activations, workshops and lectures in the city of Ferizaj, On(Off)line invites us to examine the many relationships, both digital and physical, that make up modern life.
Spearheaded by Executive Director Lebibe Topaliand her team of ARTivists, Mural Fest is “re-imagining the landscape of the city in more ways than one” as Gillen says.
Through this latest video piece, we delve into the heart of the festival and gain first-hand insight from the artists, the team and from the young volunteers that are shaping the future of the city. In addition to murals from the likes of American painter Zane Prateror and Spanish artist Dridali, the program gives residents an opportunity to engage in a series of curated workshops. As we’re shown in On(Off)line, Gabriel Pitcher’s exercise on conceptualising, researching and delivering a mural takes art beyond design and conceives it as a tool for bridging communities.
On(Off)line is the first in a new series of films from the UK based director, documenting the global movement of art on the streets, particularly in its ability to advocate wider social and environmental awareness. The film features the work of Dridali, Gabriel Pitcher, Mate, Maxi Bagnasco, Theo Magma, Retry One and the Mural Fest Crew & Zane Prater.
